Welcome New School Superintendent: A hearty welcome to Dr. Erin Nosek, the newly-appointed superintendent of Tantasqua Regional School District.
Great News: Sturbridge has earned a Double A rating from Standard & Poors, a very positive comment on the infrastructure of our community.
Restaurant News: Hearing rumors about a new pizza shop on Route 20. Not sure of the opening date at this point.
Yes, Basketville has Been Sold: The new owner is busy improving the main building on site. Looks like potential use may include office space, retail, restaurant, and/or dental office. Stay tuned for more news.
Casino Battle: MGM has withdrawn its plans to build a casino in Brimfield, due to protest from the local community. MGM is now looking for a different site in western Massachusetts. Mohegan Sun is moving forward with its intentions to build in Palmer.
BIG News - Movie Theater Coming: Per an article in the Worcester Telegram & Gazette, an 8-theater cinema complex may be in sight for Sturbridge.
Read more. The town planning board has approved the use, and it looks like a July 4th opening is possible. Hopefully this will bring enough traffic to town to support all the new restaurant concepts in the works. Better learn the back roads through town, because Route 20 is headed for gridlock.
Free Trees to Replace Those Damaged in Storms: The Sturbridge Tree Warden is offering free saplings to residents who wish to replace trees that were damaged in storms this year. You must order asap. See the

American Red Cross is accepting donations for the victims.
